We harvest our own black ash trees and pound the growth rings off with the back side of an ax. Each growth ring is split in half, and shaved to smoothness. The strips are then cut into desired width and length for weaving.
The Emerald Ash Borer was discovered in Michigan in 2002. It has steadily decimated millions of ash trees in Michigan since introduction. The Emerald ash borer has spread to over 23 states and 2 provinces in Canada. The USDA predicts the loss of the entire ash resource of North America.
We weave our baskets from remaining trees viable in Michigan. We create original, unique baskets and have 7 Copyrights registered in the Library of Congress between us.
